Strata

Strata explores the quiet force of accumulation. Across its circular surface, broad, irregular formations overlap like geological layers shaped slowly over time. The composition develops through a dense horizontal rhythm, moving between smooth ridges, deep recesses and unexpected projections.

Seen from the front, Strata appears almost like a fragment of landscape held within a circle. From the side, its relief becomes more pronounced, revealing a sculptural depth that changes with the position of the viewer. Light moves across the rounded surfaces and settles into the cavities, continually transforming the balance between highlights and shadow throughout the day.

The sculpture is made from Canaletto walnut, selected for its rich brown tones and expressive grain. The natural markings of the wood move through the relief and become part of the composition, giving every piece its own character. Designed by architect Edoardo Cavallaro, Strata is made in Italy in collaboration with Angelo, an artisan with more than fifty years of experience in woodworking.

Each sculpture is made to order. After the initial carving process, every contour and recess is refined by hand with chisels, allowing the surface to retain the subtle traces of craftsmanship while preserving the clarity of its depth. Conceived as a material presence rather than a simple decoration, Strata is designed to become part of the architecture of the space.
